For a lot of people December and Christmas seems to be a time to forget about health and fitness. With all the highly palatable food around and cold weather it seems almost impossible to make progress.
But it’s not impossible. You can still see results with a few simple changes to your diet and lifestyle. It’s still possible to eat, drink and indulge without ruining all your progress.
Simple diet and lifestyle changes to stay healthy over Christmas
• Indulge, just don’t over indulge. Learn to develop more self control and manage portions. There is no need to keep eating once you are full.
• Keep snacking on lots of fruit and vegetables over the Christmas period. On Christmas day fill yourself up with brussels sprouts, carrots and other vegetables that you may have. Read more in-depth nutritional advice .
• Prep and plan ahead in December. A little forward planning and making some good food choices can help to make your party season that little bit healthier.
• Maintain your daily steps.
• Have lower calorie alcoholic drinks. Use diet soda and spirits rather than beer and wine all the time.
• Keep your water, fibre and lean protein intake as high as possible over December. Keeping yourself fuller for longer on low calorie food and drink will help stop you from over indulging.
• If you can’t work out at the gym or keep your steps up outside then short high intensity workouts from home will help you burn those extra calories.
My Final Thoughts:
Christmas isn’t a time to just forget about your health and fitness. In order for you to see real change then you must stay committed to the plan. There’s no point in saying I’ll get back on it in January as it’s only going to set you back mentally and physically. Be more disciplined and have more self control when it comes to calorie intake.
If you’re serious about making changes don’t start in January. There’s nothing magical about it. Christmas isn’t the only time of the year you’re going to indulge. Start achieving your goals now!
Your health is something that needs working on all year round. Not just in January and the first few months of the year. Read more about how to stay motivated when losing weight.
How much better are you going to feel going in to January a pant size down? What kind of an impact do you think that’s going to have on your mindset?
